Our Burning Land

Our Burning Land is a reflection on the exploitation of land and the displacement of indigenous communities from their basic rights under the guise of development. The work draws from the ongoing protests in Hasdeo, Chhattisgarh, where once-thriving forests and indigenous habitats are being sacrificed for coal mining.

The medium, laser-cut wood, echoes the irony of destruction. The technique of burning through material to create form parallels the real-world burning and erasure of natural ecosystems and tribal livelihoods. The piece mourns a land once rich with life, now scarred by human greed and ecological neglect.
